York Groupwork

"... a unique, flexible way of thinking about and working with groups .. "

Group Psychotherapy

Our therapy groups meet in person, at St Bedes Pastoral Centre, York – close to York station.
We are continuing to offer an online group as well.

Block Groups

Psychotherapy groups are open to anyone who is interested in an intensive group therapy experience, including current Diploma year students for whom participation meets the recommendation that Diploma students undertake personal therapy.

York Groupwork offers three separate psychotherapy groups on a ‘block’ basis, conducted by highly experienced group psychotherapists,  Sara Perren, Chris MacGregor and Debbie Warburton.   The ‘block’ model is a very cost-effective way of accessing psychotherapy for personal or professional development, making it easier for those travelling from outside York to attend. The group conducted by Chris MacGregor is offered online only, for those who prefer not to travel.

Venue

The ‘in person’ groups meet in central York at the St Bede’s Pastoral Centre, 21 Blossom St, York YO24 1AQ. The venue is a few minutes walk from York Railway Station. Reduced cost parking is available on a Saturday.

Fees

Fees are paid on the 1st of each month in advance by standing order, in instalments of 1/12 of the total annual fee for a full year.

For the block groups, the fee is £1908 for a full year (payable as £159.00 per month). Participants starting or leaving part way through a year pay the same monthly instalment, with their final account being calculated on leaving the group based on the actual number of group sessions during their membership. There may therefore be a balance owing to the group member or to York Groupwork Ltd.

Fees are subject to review and potentially a modest increase from March each year.  Current fees will be maintained until at least 1st March 2024.

Joining and leaving the Group

The group conductor will offer an individual consultation appointment to those interested in joining the group for which a fee of £80 is payable to York Groupwork Ltd.

The groups run on a long term, ‘slow open’ basis where group members stay for as long as they wish and when there is a space new members can join. Block group members are requested to give at least three block days notice of their intention to leave the group.

Confidentiality

York Groupwork Ltd. staff are not involved clinically with the block therapy groups, but handle and signpost initial enquiries, manage the administration of room bookings and invoicing for fees etc.  Therapists work on a confidential basis, as outlined in our privacy policy.
